The 2024 Difference Society Campaign is raising funds for a critically needed Ultrasound Machine for the ALH Emergency Department. Ultrasound technology assists nursing and physician staff in quickly and accurately caring for critically ill patients. This machine enables quicker placement of peripheral vascular access and midline placement. Physicians are allowed to perform point-of-care ultrasound exams to identify life-threatening injuries and expedite transfer to specialty care. In cardiac arrest patients, ultrasound can help identify potentially reversible causes and definitively identify the presence or absence of cardiac contractile activity. Ultrasound technology assists in rapidly identifying causes of respiratory arrest/failure, such as pneumothorax, PE, and pleural effusion. Lastly, ultrasound technology assists the physician in various procedures such as lumbar puncture, central venous catheter insertion, etc. This piece of equipment would be a significant asset to the Emergency Department at Athens-Limestone Hospital.
